Project Description
Project Overview
Garden Links completed a custom playground for the Aramco school project in Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, with production and fabrication carried out at the GLC factory.
The installation combines elevated climbing structures, rope crossings, slides, varied swing seats, a themed playhouse and a musical activity station. Curved steel profiles and shaped fibreglass components give the equipment a distinct appearance, with different colours defining the individual activity groups.
The project uses fibreglass and galvanized steel pipes with a powder-coated finish. European-standard design requirements formed part of the project brief.

An Activity Mix Beyond Slides and Swings
The distinguishing feature of this project is the range of experiences within the school courtyard. Connected climbing routes encourage children to move through the larger structures, while the playhouse and musical panel provide activities with a different pace.
Pupils can choose climbing, crossing, sliding, swinging, crawling, pretend play and sound exploration.
Elevated Structures and Rope Crossings
The turquoise-and-blue structure uses curved posts around raised platforms, open slides and rope-net activities. Suspended stepping elements introduce a crossing route between sections.
A separate brown-framed structure combines vertical access ladders, elevated platforms, climbing nets and slides. Red and light-coloured panels define parts of the platform perimeter.
These contrasting arrangements give the climbing sections their own identities. For schools reviewing circulation, equipment spacing and supervision, our school playground layout and planning guide explains the wider site considerations.
Playhouse, Slide and Crawling Passage
The yellow house-themed unit includes a pitched roof, window details and an attached slide. A low-level opening provides a crawling route beneath the raised section.
The house form creates a recognisable setting for imaginative play. Its combination of upper and lower activities makes the unit useful beyond the slide alone.
Different Swing Seat Formats
The installation includes a frame with two supported seats featuring backrests and two belt-style seats. A separate green suspended seat adds another format.
Each configuration should follow its designated age range, load limit and operating instructions. Schools comparing seat types and frame arrangements can explore our outdoor swing configurations.
Shared Spring-Mounted Activities
Lime-green multi-seat units are arranged around central sections with handholds. Their spring-mounted construction introduces shared rocking activity outside the larger climbing structures.
The bright seating and contrasting metalwork carry the project’s custom visual character into the smaller equipment.
Musical Sound-Tube Station
A green-and-yellow freestanding panel holds a row of metal sound tubes and two tethered beaters.
This station lets children explore sound by striking different tubes. It adds a hands-on sensory activity to the courtyard and gives pupils another option between movement-based activities.

Custom Production at the GLC Factory
Garden Links carried out the project’s production and fabrication at the GLC factory before installation in Al Ahsa.
Factory fabrication is central to the project’s identity. The curved pipe profiles, themed house and shaped components create a coordinated equipment collection with several distinct activity types.
The work brings together structural metal fabrication and fibreglass production. Connections between platforms, barriers, slides and suspended elements are part of that coordination, allowing the separate components to form the intended equipment arrangement.
For a school commissioning custom equipment, this stage connects the design with the physical structures that arrive on site.
Materials and Finishes
Fibreglass Components
Fibreglass, also called glass-reinforced plastic or GRP, forms part of the specified construction.
It supports the shaped forms used in the custom equipment and contributes to the project’s distinctive appearance.
Exposed fibreglass surfaces should be inspected for cracks, chips or damaged finishes, with repairs carried out using methods appropriate to the component.
Galvanized Steel Pipes
Galvanized steel pipes provide the specified structural framework. Fabricated posts and frames support the elevated activities and suspended equipment.
Galvanizing provides corrosion protection for the steel. Structural connections, fixing points and exposed surfaces remain important inspection areas throughout the equipment’s service life.
Powder-Coated Paint
The steelwork has a powder-coated finish. Blue, turquoise, brown and other coordinated colours distinguish the equipment groups and contribute to the overall design.
The coating adds a protective surface over the metalwork. Scratches or damaged areas should be assessed and repaired before deterioration spreads.
Installation and European-Standard Design
The equipment was produced at the GLC factory and assembled at the school site in Al Ahsa.
The layout brings fixed climbing structures together with swings, suspended crossings and spring-mounted activities. These equipment types have different movement patterns, making the relationship between their activity spaces an important installation consideration.
European-standard design requirements were included in the project brief. The equipment layout, connections, barriers and access arrangements form part of the technical design.
Our playground safety planning guide for Saudi Arabia covers broader considerations for clearances, surfacing and inspection.
The accompanying images document the equipment installation stage.
Care in Saudi Conditions
The school’s maintenance programme should address the different materials and moving assemblies within the installation.
Dust removal and surface-temperature checks are practical priorities. Rope connections, swing attachments and spring-mounted components require inspections appropriate to their repeated movement, while steel coatings and fibreglass finishes need checks for damage.
Ground fixings, drainage and any protective surfacing should also remain within the inspection schedule. Where equipment receives direct sunlight, shade and checks of contact surfaces help manage heat during use.
Why Choose Garden Links for Custom School Equipment?
This Al Ahsa project provides a specific example of Garden Links’ production and installation work: custom school playground equipment fabricated at the GLC factory for an Aramco school project.
Its scope combines larger climbing structures with themed, sensory and shared movement activities. The result is an equipment selection with a recognisable design character and several ways for pupils to participate.
For another school, the proposal should begin with site dimensions, pupil age groups, expected user numbers and preferred activities. Drawings, material specifications, installation requirements and maintenance information then define the project in practical terms.
